More from Cam

Hey, Everyone!

I've been doing a lot better this past week.. and have actually grown to somewhat enjoy tracting.... I've gotten A LOT better at my "door approaches". Elder Hendrickson (who's been out a year) says that I am better than he is now... and... sadly I can kinda see it. I taught one lady basically the entire first lesson on the door step, it was great. Another lady we talked to for about an hour and I asked her "If there were a living prophet on the Earth today, who holds God's Authority, would you be willing to follow the example of Jesus Christ and be baptized by that same Authority?" She said yeah she would... she's so SOLID... I even invited her to confrenece this weekend to hear from the Prophet and she said she'd love to... I'm So excided.
So things have been going a lot better. I've had fun, too.

Things here in Craig are nice... its a coal mining town so not a whole lot of people are home during the day. But you do what you can with what you got. There are mountains and hills and desert-ish places up here. Craig is the Elk Hunting Capitol of the world... I've seen so many deer here in town its insane. Last night there were about a dozen in the tiny field/yard right outside our apartment door. One time when we came home from Baggs (when we go up there we stay the night so we can work longer) I counted... 22 dead deer and elk, on the side of the road. that's about two every mile... pretty gross and sad... anyways... I guess you didn't NEED to know that, just a tidbit of info... ;)
Its pretty country.... VERY dry, and apparently pretty cold but I got here just as it was warming up. In the winter here it gets to have about a week straight of 50 degrees below zero. That's pretty cold... they have three seasons here... winter, mud, and about 3 short weeks of summer. We're in the mud season... but I hear we'll be getting another blizzard either tonight or tomorrow. I talked to one lady and she said she can remember when she still had 10" of snow in June. Its kinda bad. But oh well...

We found out last... Saturday... that Elder Hendrickson and I are moving in with some members, the Jones'. We are moving in tomorrow... but I dont' have the address off the top of my head so I will get that to you ASAP.. .but don't worry .. you can still send things to the 833 Tucker St. address because the Craig 1st ward elders are moving into that apartment. and they'll give us what mail comes there.

I love you all so much, and thank you for all your prayers and support and everything.

Up in the North part of Colorado.

Hello, everyone.

I am here in Craig, CO. Its a small town of about 9-10 thousand people... Its not too bad. My new address is:
833 Tucker St. Apt. B
Craig, CO 81625
My new Companion is Elder Hendrickson. He is from Thousand Oaks, CA. He's a good missionary.
Our area is the biggest, geographically, in the entire mission.
We cover Craig 2nd Ward, Craig 3rd Ward and..... wait for it.....the Baggs, WY Branch!!! ... I told you... it is a TINY town of 358 people.... with only two paved roads, one TINY grocery store, and one gas station. We only go up there once a week because it is 40 miles away... we also cover... Hayden which is 20 miles east of Craig, Brown's Park (right on the Utah Border) wich is 90 miles away from Craig, and Hamilton which is 15 miles south of Craig... so its a BIG area. But anyways... the members in the Branch, that I've met so far, are pretty amazing... very strong people. But I have a feeling I am going to be stuck here for half my mission... like I said I would.
The area is nice but I am having a problem.... We only have one really solid investigator... and all we have really done so far is TRACT... I HATE tracting. It is not an effective way to find people... granted the people here are very nice and friendly but still... no one is interested. Its been tough but I know I need to learn to love it because that's part of being a missionary.

Lunch Lady Earrings...

I decided to be silly one weekend and I made some pizza and donut earrings for us to wear to work on the days we serve donuts and pizza. I had a lot of people ask about getting some so I went crazy a different weekend and made a bunch more food earrings and school ones.
Here are a few pictures of them.

Cam Update

Here is the email we got from Cam today. He is doing amazing and still just loving his mission so much.

Dear Family,
I am being transferred tomorrow. I'm not sure where I am going but I will let you know my address as soon as possible.

Anyways... we had a baptism last Saturday. His name was Tim Gabelson. He lives in the Grand Junction 6th ward but he was taught his in-laws ward and he went to church with them. His wife is a member and became inactive after her mission. She served in Rome and was kind of bitter when she got back because she had such a hard mission. Tim was actually an alter boy in the Catholic church. He's a pretty great guy. Anyways... Elder Englund and I were both really excited for this baptism because our investigator Trent Hill came. There is a statistic that says that 80% of all investigators that attend a baptism will end up being baptized. And even after the baptism we asked him when it was his turn. He replied "It's a surprise." Even another lady in our ward asked the same thing and he and his wife (Sister Hill, our ward's YW President) just laughed and she said "We're working on it." When we teach him he says things like.. "so, when we get sealed....." or " when I get some a quad..." I don't think he realizes what he's saying but he really is ready. Its only a matter of time...
Its too bad I won't be there to see it... But its alright.

Also another cool story.. A few weeks ago the bishop gave us this name to go and see.. His name is Brian Wright. He's been inactive for 16 years and just went through a bad divorce with his non-member wife.
So we stopped by and his wife (at the time) was there we gave her our number and todl her to give it to Brian and have him call us... She said she would.
So a few weeks went by and we forgot about it...
Then on a Monday night we were planning for the next day... I was flipping through my planner and saw his name and I had the overwhelming urge to call him... but you know me I DO NOT like calling people... especially people I don't know. So I ignored the feeling... then a few minutes later I found myself on that page again... and again... I felt I had to call him... so ... I did.
We talked for a bit and set up an appointment to see him the next night.
When we got there he told us about him leaving the church and how he's been wanting to come back but doesn't know where to start. He also told us that he has been talking on the phone with his dad about coming back. Their last conversation about that was... Monday night... His dad told him that he would try and get a hold of someone who could help him. Then they talked a bit more and hung up...
Not thirty minutes later... I called...
We are now reteaching him the lessons and he's coming back to church. It was an awesome experience. It amazed me how the Lord can even work through me... It was amazing... I hope more of these experiences happen...

Anways... that's about it... Thank you again for everything.
I love you

Lookey at what I made.....

I found this cute pattern online and made it. I was so happy with how cute it turned out.

Another short letter from my sonshine

I am going to write you a letter about my neat experience with Brian because it'll take too long. It was amazing. It really helped me realize that the LORD do amazing things even through the smallest things I do. I'll let you know.
Another cool little side note... I told you about Trent Hill, he's the non-member cop guy we've been teaching? The day before we first met with them... Sister Hill (our ward's YW president) had a blessing because they've been trying to two years to get pregnant and haven't had any success. Well, we had dinner and lesson with them a few nights back and they gave us some exciting news. She is pregnant. And what's pretty neat about that is... they told us even before they told his parents... we were pretty honored and excited for them. It meant a lot that they trusted us telling us that.. Things have been going great with Trent ... he is so ready for this.. I can see him being an amazing member. His wife is awesome too.

Transfers are coming up next week so I will let you know next Wednesday if I'm staying or if I'm going. I really think I'll be staying and E. Englund is leaving. Whatever happens will be the LORD's will and will need to happen. I'll keep you informed.

Tell Carson and Brady (Brady especially because Carson is already pretty big) to not grow up TOO much these next two years... I still want LITTLE brothers when I get home.

Tell everyone I love them and keep them all in my prayers.
I Love you!
